Privacy Policy

Last updated September 15, 2026

Welcome to POPPIN. This Privacy Policy explains how POPPIN (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information in relation to the POPPIN mobile application and the poppin.vip website (together, the “Service”).

1. Information We Collect

1.1. Account Information: You sign in with an email address or phone number. We send a one-time verification code to that contact method and store it as your account identifier — we never store passwords. You may also provide a display name, date of birth, gender, and Instagram handle (some features, such as the guest list, require them).

1.2. Votes and Activity: When you vote on a venue (“Poppin” / “Slow”), we store the vote, the venue and event it applies to, your account’s gender (used only in aggregate for the crowd ratio), and a device identifier used to prevent duplicate voting. Votes are shown only in aggregate and are pruned from our servers after a few days.

1.3. Location: With your permission, the app uses your device’s location to unlock voting when you are physically near a venue and to show distances. Proximity is checked on your device; we do not store a history of your location on our servers.

1.4. Contacts (optional): If you choose “add friends from contacts” on a guest-list request, the app reads the names and phone numbers in your contacts on your device and sends the phone numbers to our servers for one purpose: to check which of them already have a Poppin account. Numbers are compared and discarded immediately; we do not store your address book, and we never contact the people in it. Names never leave your device. You can always type a single number instead of granting contacts access.

1.5. Push Notifications: If you enable notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can notify you (for example, guest-list updates). You can disable this at any time in your device settings.

1.6. Guest-list activity: When you request or confirm a spot on a promoter’s list we store the request, its status, your party (friends you added, each of whom accepts in their own account), a ticket code, and, when a promoter scans that ticket at the door, the time of the scan. Scans feed a simple attendance rate (nights attended vs. confirmed) that promoters see when you request their list. Nothing else is derived from it; there are no penalties or suspensions.

1.7. Night chat and ratings: Each confirmed night has a message thread between the promoter and confirmed guests. Messages are stored so participants can read them, can be reported, deleted by their author or the promoter, and removed by Poppin; threads close after the night. After your ticket is scanned you may rate the promoter (stars only); individual ratings are visible only to you and Poppin, and promoters see an average.

1.8. Camera (promoters): Promoter accounts may use the camera to scan a guest’s ticket QR code at the door. The camera image is processed on the device to read the code and is never stored or uploaded.

1.9. Log and Usage Data: We collect standard technical logs when you use the Service, such as IP address, device type, and access times, used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.

1.10. Cookies (website): The poppin.vip website uses only essential cookies/local storage needed for it to function. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.

2. How We Use Your Information

2.1. Provide, maintain, and improve the Service — including live crowd rankings, event listings, guest-list features, and VIP concierge requests. 2.2. Verify your identity at sign-in (one-time codes). 2.3. Show aggregated, anonymized crowd data (Poppin %, crowd ratio). 2.4. Respond to your requests and send service notices. 2.5. Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse.

3. Sharing of Your Information

3.1. We do not sell or rent your personal information.

3.2. Service providers: We share the minimum necessary data with providers that operate parts of the Service on our behalf: SMS delivery (verification codes), transactional email delivery, and cloud hosting. These providers process data only to provide their service to us.

3.3. Venue and ticketing links: Ticket purchases happen on the venue’s or ticketing platform’s own site. Poppin does not sell tickets and does not share your account data with venues; anything you enter on a ticketing site is governed by that site’s privacy policy.

3.4. Guest list: When you request a promoter’s list, that promoter sees your name, age, Instagram handle, party size, your attendance rate, and whether you have applied to other lists that night. Your phone number is shared with a promoter only after you confirm a spot on his list, so he can coordinate arrival. Other confirmed guests on the same night may see your name and Instagram handle if the promoter has enabled that for the list; never your phone number. Friends you add see the request they were added to.

3.5. Legal: We may disclose information to law enforcement or government agencies where required by law.

4. Storage, Security, and Retention

4.1. Data is stored on servers we control and is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of information you transmit.

4.2. We keep account data while your account is active. Vote records are pruned after a few days; verification codes expire within minutes.

5. Your Choices and Rights

5.1. Access and correction: You can update your profile details in the app at any time.

5.2. Account deletion: You can permanently delete your account and its data directly in the app (Settings → Delete Account). Deletion is immediate and removes your account record from our servers.

5.3. Permissions: Location, contacts, camera, and notifications are optional and controlled through your device settings; the core app works without them.

5.4. Blocking and reporting: You can block any person in a night chat (they can no longer message you or add you to a request) and report any message. Reports are reviewed by Poppin, which can remove content and accounts that break our terms.

6. Children’s Privacy

6.1. Our Service is not directed to individuals under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. Nightlife features are intended for users of legal nightlife age in their jurisdiction; the guest list requires users to be 18 or older.

7. Changes to Our Privacy Policy

7.1. We may modify this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the app.
